ABOUT THE AVATAR: My wife, Holly, is very artistic. She sews, makes jewelery, draws, and paints. Here, she did a Corel PaintShop Pro X4 enhancement of a photo taken in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, USA, recently. Posted 3.13.12

As an artist, I enjoy painting and photographing segments of rural life. Country living became a new world for me back in the sixties when we moved from Chicago, Illinois to East Tennessee. Our family relocated to a farm on Buttermilk Road, just outside of Kingston. I played in the fields, worked in tobacco and hay, plus made corncob pipes for, uh, fun of course. Although I was born a city boy, I converted to a country boy with no problems at all. Country living back then created a lot of good memories for me.”
“My RedBubble site is geared for the rural enthusiast. So, if you like country scenes, old rusty vehicles, near ancient barns and houses, country singers, horses, etc., then you ought to feel right at home, here!”
I’m glad you’re here…
Some of the tools I use when venturing out into my hobbies are…
I use a Canon Power Shot A630 for photography and Corel PaintShop Pro X4 for editing.

PAINTING: I paint in acrylics, pastels, and charcoal.
When painting in acrylics, I use some of the major names in the business… WINSTON & NEWTON, GRUMBACHER, and Liquitex. When painting with pastels, I use Artist’s Soft Pastels, by Gallery. GRAYSTONE, by Gallery is what I use for charcoal work.
The thing not mentioned much on RB: I have a small local art business at home. I do local shows when possible. I have prints, matted prints, framed prints, and glass coasters of much of my art. I have small table top pictures (framed).
Also, I do specialty work for people: If a person wants a picture (that is, a picture that belongs to the person already) matted and/or framed, I can do and have done it. The most unusual job I once took on was matting and framing a Thomas Kincade 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle, very cool! In addition, I do light restoration work of both oil and acrylic paintings. Never a dull moment at the Hall house! Believe it or not, I’m employed full-time at a local healthcare facility.
USING MY IMAGES: Like most on RB, I use my images to sell products on this site and on zazzle. I’m planning to setup a myspace site as home base for all my online activity. This includes offering my home products afore mentioned.
Oh, one other thing about painting… Due to my eclectic activities in visual arts, plus working full-time, I complete, I’d say, three or four paintings a year. That’s par for the course, I guess. Maybe when I retire, I’ll spend more time at the easel… just maybe, lol!

ON PAINTING
Painting, for me, has never been a hobby. It is not relaxing – writers and athletes would say the same. Since I was twelve, I have always painted unless I am interrupted. It is a labour, but it is what I do . . . a labour of love let us say. – Robert Bateman, Canadian artist.
ON PHOTOGRAPHY
Photography is more than a medium for factual communication of ideas. It is a creative art. – Ansel Adams
BOB’S FEATURED ARTISTS
The following artists are a few of my favorites from around these parts…
Duane Keiser is a unique painter. He is not a rural artist as those above, nor an artist from this region. Duane Keiser is known for creating a painting a day, as his blog is called. Keiser’s work is really amazing. Check it out and see why I say this.

I’ve started a new segment on ArtbyBob called, Redneckology.
PURPOSE OF SEGMENT…
… Redneckology is about all things redneck. I find the study of rednecks to be quite interesting. I guess that’s because I are one,… well… not 100% redneck, but maybe 1/4% to 50% redneck, so I’m told. That means if rednecks owned a string of rest-stops across the state of Tennessee, I’d qualify to claim my share of the profits from the snack machines, pay phones, and pinball machines of each rest-stop. Yes sir, I’m in some mighty fine company.
NEW INFO. (posted 4/16/12)
One thing we can say about rednecks is that they can be colorful characters in the way they present themselves, dress, carry on, and talk. This segment is about redneck vocabulary and terminology. The redneck language is quite interesting, and, at times, humorous. A good trait demonstrated by most rednecks is a sense of humor. We find this kind of humor presented by entertainers like Jeff Foxworthy, in his, You might be a redneck if…, one liners. The old TV variety show, Hee Haw was about country and redneck humor. The show’s duration lasted from 1969–1993. Country folk and rednecks know how to laugh at themselves and not take life too seriously. We’ve all been born and we’ll all die… the ride between the two can be taken lightheartedly or dead seriously. As much as possible, I prefer the first.
Here’s just a little of redneck terminology…
BARD – verb. Past tense of the infinitive “to borrow.”
Usage: “My brother bard my pickup truck.”

gonna far you!”
TIRE – noun. A tall monument.

Paris sometime.”
HOT – noun. A blood-pumping organ.
