Shiro

Size: 8×10 inches
Medium: Acrylic
Support: Ampersand Gessobord

This is Shiro who passed on in July 2008. She was 17 years old. It took me a while to paint her for our wall, but I finally got around to do it. When she was just about 2 months old, we adopted her entire family, including her siblings, mother, and grandmother. They were such beautiful and wonderful companions. Now they have all passed away, but left so many lovely memories in our hearts.

Shiro belongs to the following groups:

Acrylic Painting, Animal Kingdom, Fine Arts, For the Love of Cats , 1 image a day , Realist Traditional Art and Wildlife and Pet Paintings Available for sale as

Greeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints and Framed Prints

Beautiful painting :) It’s easy to miss having a cat, I grew up with two of them… Shiro must have been very lucky to be well loved for 17 years :)

  • artbyakiko replied

Thank you so much David! Cats are wonderful companions. My life would be empty without them. :)

i am impressed with the detail and precision of your painting, especially that is done in acrylic. it took me a very long time to work in acrylic after painting in oil for a long time. tell me please if you use any glazing mediums or retarders, i tried everything but nothing works for me.

  • artbyakiko replied

Magda thank you for checking out my Shiro painting. I love using acrylic because it requires no turp and cleanup is easy. I use only water, no mediums or retarders. However, I do use a covered palette so that the paint does not dry quickly.

thank you for your answer. i am interested in this covered palette, is it something you bought or created yourself? i heard about wet palettes, but i have never seen them. yes, cleaning up is so easy at acrylics and i love the drying time. however for my oils i never use turp, only crude linden oil and water and soap for cleaning. but oils do have a certain toxicity and fumes even without turp.

  • artbyakiko replied

My covered palette is a quite simple 10-well plastic palette with a plastic lid. It costs only about a few dollars. Search the Internet. After placing paint in each well, I put a few drops of water on the paint. When it starts to dry, put a few more. To mix colors, I use a disposable paper palette. :)
