This image was from a pastel on watercolor wash series titled, “Madonnas del Agua.” This picture was so popular that I had to do two, one for each grandmother! It was featured on one of my books as cover art. I am of the school of human evolution popularized by Elaine Morgan in such works as “The Aquatic Ape.” She explains the theory of human evolution taking a turn in the shadow ocean off the coast of Africa before returning to the plain as the “mighty hunter.” Once you read this theory, every other theory is pretty much ridiculous. To celebrate humans, I did many pictures of them in a more natural environment of under water. Babies under the age of 4 months readily take the water and have no problems holding their breaths. It is only after this age that a fear of water will occur. As for me, I swim better than I walk!
