Sgt. Pepper (Lennon) by

This is an example of a classical Italian drawing style called “macchia.” It is done on colored paper with layers of powdered charcoal, powdered chalk, and finally charcoal and chalk pencils. It is a dynamic style. To watch this mastery is like watching someone do ballet. I used several photos of John Lennon as references for this portrait of the famous Beatle. I was able to capture the “Liverpool Punk” cynicism in his eyes.
