My art career has been full of ups and downs, mostly because I’ve always worked one or two jobs and drew on my breaks or whenever I could. I also went to school at a time when abstract art was hot and realistic art was looked down upon, so I have no art education, per se.
Despite starting out on the wrong foot and having no time for my art, I kept at it. I met with a teacher who said over and over that no one had talent, that talent was just a myth. But he did insist that people got better with proper instruction and practice, practice, practice! I look back on my old art now, amazed that I have come this far. It’s not about comparing yourself to others, but the journey.
