A Hurricane Scrambles At Shoreham Airshow 2012

CanonEOS 1000D 70-300mm Zoom Lens

The earliest aircraft in the Hanger 11 Collection is the Hawker Hurricane IIb BE505. BE505 was built in Canada in 1942 at the Canadian Car & Foundry Company factory. It has the construction number CCF/R20023 and was one of 1,451 Hurricanes built under licence by the company during the early stages of the Second World War. The aircraft served with the Royal Canadian Air Force in home based fighter squadrons. Following the end of the Second World War the aircraft was sold off, but escaped being used as ‘spares’ by farmers which was a common fate for Canadian airframes! She was restored by Hawker Restorations between 2005 and 2009 as a Hurricane IIb ‘Hurri-Bomber’ of 174 (Mauritius) Squadron based at RAF Manston in Spring 1942.
