Battle of Britain!

On the 15th September 1940 more than 1,000 enemy aircraft carried out a day and night attack on London – it was a day of very heavy fighting and later became commemorated as Battle of Britain day. The RAF announced that they had shot down 175 enemy aircraft – the figure was wildly inaccurate – the real number that the Germans had lost was closer to 56 – but the inflated numbers were accepted at the time as both sides fought a propaganda battle as well as a military war. The Spitfire summer was nearing its end.

Ever since a child, aviation has been a keen interest of mine, with warbirds being my favourite. Since joining Redbubble, I have become a keen follower of HDR work, which I am concerntrating on at the moment.

Another nice one Colin. I tried using that layer you mentioned, its ok but not as good as this – user problem rather than the layer :)

  • Believe it or not, this is the same layer ! I duplicated the layer, and set blend mode to overlay, and fiddled with the opacity in each layer> to lighten the edges, use the vignette option in the lens distortion menu, and slide the adjuster to lighten to get the desired effect !

You are really turning out some fantastic work lately Colin. Bill

  • Wow! thanks Bill, I`d thought I`d have a go at textures, trying to recreate old photos, and what with the sucess of Defending our Shores, I thought I would have a go at some more, as this summer over here, all the airshows are themed 70 years since the Battle of britain. Luckily I good some good shots at Shoreham Airshow last year, and I am now working on them, doing a sort of Sepia series. So watch out for them, as they are almost finished – Colin

    Great work again Colin,
and using your own photos. All your own work as you said.
    Cheers Neil

  • Thanks Neil, I don`t use anyone else`s shots, You can`t really call it “all your own Work”. Just a matter of firing off lots of shots at Airshows !
