Nephew Joss Britten-King was my assistant on this occasion, helping to spot and track this spider on a beach-side path. The spider herself was well-camouflaged, but the brilliant white spherical egg-sac that she was transporting caught our attention (estimated 3mm? diameter).
I hope to identify the species. Any help is welcome..
At present I’ve found images of several species bearing a resemblance on this site
- Araneus diadematus, the Garden Orb spider
- Zygiella x-notata, the ‘missing sector’ Orb Weaver
- Segestria senoculata, the Snake’s-Back spider
- Amaurobius similis
- Amaurobius fenestralis
- Theridion sisyphium
