The word ‘carousel’ can mean a revolving fairground ride or, in industry, a rotary device acting as receptacle or dispenser of items – items methodically sorted and stored.
Here, pieces of Fall seem to be finding their way through appropriate slots, as if just such a mechanical agent of change regulated the turning of the season.
