Edinburgh by night, outside Waverley railway station.. a busy thoroughare.
It’s a pick-up and drop-off point for taxis, and buses stop here – for travellers and city sightseeing tours.
Many pedestrians pass. Often there is someone seated on the pavement, begging. You may at other times see a busker – such as a bagpipe-player – especially in the weeks when tourists throng for the Festival season.
All this, going on with the backdrop of centuries-worth of architecture, massive stonework seemingly impassive yet also itself subject to change..
..the varied pulse of a big city, and Scotland’s historic capital.
