The view looking west along Princes Street, Edinburgh, towards Lothian Road.
This major shopping thoroughfare is seen closed to road traffic for installation of the lines for the forthcoming tram system.
This is a historic change for Scotland’s capital city.

Looming dimly on the left (behind two blue box cabins) is the Scott Monument sited in the scenic Princes Street Gardens (its tower housing the statue of writer Sir Walter Scott, 1771-1832). Lying beyond that, unseen, is Edinburgh Castle on its crag.
Further down the street on the left stands a shadowy form, bastion of art: the Royal Scottish Academy building, with the National Gallery of Scotland behind it.

Tuesday night, 13th October 2009 about 8:30p.m. BST.
