So here I am, proving my green credentials by my enthusiastic conspicuous consumption of fresh vegetable produce.

Or am I?

An Unfeasibly Large Carrot?

well..
actually..
it’s not a carrot.

It is a length of orange foam pipe sleeving I found in the park, and a twigful of leaves fallen from a nearby tree. Seeing them, Opportunity beckoned; how could I refuse that call?

As an experiment in unplanned found art and ad hoc construction, it was a learning experience I value..

As a self-portrait It provides a – shall we say novel -addition to my portfolio here..

Also as an experimental way to pass time enjoyably (some might say, waste time – the Philistines!), it certainly proved a success.

I found that it’s surprisingly difficult to photograph myself steadily, with a camera handheld at arms length, in my left hand (I’m right-handed), at a desirable angle and without intrusive shadows – especially with a flimsy flung-together fake carrot, whose real (but wilting) leaves were all a-flutter on a windy day.
(Would you care to guess how many shots it took me?)

This stunt did wonders, then, in developing my patience and in conquering fear of appearing foolish in public places..

Dunfermline Public Park. Late May, late afternoon, 2009.
