This is representative, primarily, of the loss of freedom, that many think they attain upon adulthood, but which they really had before – specifically that horrible feeling of being jailed as one sits waiting for sentencing and execution of same, the punishment coming at the beginning in waiting, during the trial, and afterward in humiliation; and possibly, hard labor, as well!. AKA: the job interview
See the dazed look on her face? That is someone who just realized that they got what they wanted, and resolute in their purpose to muddle through and make do, despite that they realized they no longer wanted it and are going to pine for what was scorned and lost.
The pose is somewhat modeled after, and definitely inspired by, a photo from a Neiman Marcus catalog. Which is filled, by the way, with many lovely things that it is highly unlikely I should ever be able to afford.
If I could, in the main, I wouldn’t: I’d go shop somewhere cheap and help a needy family pay their rent first. Though, I’d pay a lot for custom made shoes!
