The Singular Red Cherry by

I was given a cherry tree last year, as a christmas present – it was great – just what I wanted! I love fresh ripe cherries, and actually can’t eat the store bought ones, as I find they go nasty and tasteless very quickly.

So in spring this year, I was incredibly happy when my Cherry tree bloomed spectacularly! There would have been well over 50 flowers, and it looked so pretty, adorned with tiny white stars.

Then… the storm came. It was a big one, and caused much flooding and parts of where i live was actually evacuated, for fears of another 100 year flood. Nothing, thankfully, eventuated with the flooding… but my poor cherry tree had taken one nasty beating. Most of it’s leaves had been blown off, and it was nearly pushed to the ground.

I took care of it, and gave it lots of Seasol, and generally took care of it, until it was ‘back on it’s feet’ and obviously not going to drop dead on me. A month or two later, I’m in the garden, and I see this weird speck of red catches my eye – I go to investigate and find this beauty growing.

A single survivor!
