It’s a tee. It’s a dress. It’s the new Graphic T-shirt Dress.

I Took to the Trees

I took my pain into the trees
It was cool
Night
Moon
And I’d been attracting attention

The dark’s softness embraced me
Sheltered me
From those thoughts
Which had found words,
And turned those stranger’s heads
To forked snake’s poison

I found a store selling lies once
The owner was spruiking – eyes noticing
Loud
Late afternoon
Long shadows
“Lies, cheap lies, special deal just for you sir/madam/son…my love…”

Quiet

I remember, and the spot
Hurts
Weeps
But the moon herself is in me
And the night breathes into my pain and fear

I take my life into the trees
And there I find a stream
I notice my own reflection
And wash myself clean

I Took to the Trees

Artist's Description

This came from a random thought which I put to words here and which someone described as a “secret tree” and another “post a secret” :)

Many thanks to Dan, JH, T, Jennifer, and D for sharing and trusting me with your thoughts, hopes, fears, secrets, anger and pain.

While this naturally ended up with bits of me in it…I hope I have honoured your courage and words.

XO
