The Decision

I went down to the corner pokie pub
And drank a beer
In my spot

It reminded me of irreverence
And that time
Before I knew of Alfred and acting
When flying blind
And caring less
Was life

But opening musty memories
Was not
What I’d had in mind
Nor was gambling
With bills and dodgy pasts

How many
And for how long
Had stained forgotten arses
Sat
On those brown crusty stools
Biding

I’d planned to toast the start
Celebrate
But cobwebs and poisoned panoramas
Clung like salt damp wallpaper
And opened-too-late letters
While time turned those almost ever present
To rust

The Decision
