Paper Planes

Your face
Kept handing out
Paper love planes
Origamied soft sunsets

When I just wanted to ride on your disco
Your glitter ball
Asking, will you love me?
Can we really dance in these lights for ever?

So I missed the movie offering
While the butts in the street
Smoked and rubbed my back
Like you did
Like I used to

And when the plane landed
Overshooting the tarmac
No-one screamed
Not even quietly
Not even to Jesus

It was as if the final inferno
Was our beauty balm
Taking us both by tender surprise
Like a tea ceremony with one fortune cookie
Sitting unassuming
On the side

Paper Planes
