This box is life

This box is life
A dynamic cube of fixed abode
A magnificent maze
More than existence, a life force
Potentially grand

Our unit moved
Shifted an inch
Shuddering
Compelled out of shape
Comfortable security threatened

Encouraging coffee and tobacco stains
Insecurity gnaws at a recovering alcoholic form
Bent but renewable
An autumn leaf
Shed skin
This gift is of the Indian type
Not given

Destiny anticipates growth
Instinctive survival
Our shape is new
Absurdly unacceptable
Fondly we kick the skin under the bed
A strange creation
This box of tricks

This circle is life
Swiveling like a possessed chair
In a ridiculous landscape

This box is life

Artist's Description

For my brother…who just reminded me that this was his favourite writing of mine and that he was disappointed not to find it here.

I wrote it sometime in the early 80’s when we were growing up on Sydney’s North Shore – it was one of my very first I think.

Cheers George.
Miss you :)
