Red Sky in the Evening

I’m sitting at my kitchen table
Brewed first thing coffee
Bathed in fine
Warm
Yellow

Your love is in a vase
Snap fresh and playful
Like morning sun
diving off my opening mind

I clock
Your soft petals
Peeking at the creeping day
Which nuzzles along my pillared verandah

Last night’s star
Offered me
Your shine and strength
Your hands and your musty scent

I tussled your tenderness
I Hitched on that dream

And fell

Over, past and beyond
The year of treading water
Terrified of plagues
Raging black flood waters
And
Smashing your vase
to smithereens

I wake
Calmly and religiously change your
Daisy, lemon blosom, snapdragon
Water
Finish my coffee
Straighten
And walk out
New shoes
Into the blazing sun

like observing a crystal, clear snapshot of a simplistic, yet beautiful, kitchen scene. lol… I meant that as a compliment by the way! :)

oh Robert, this is such a tender, crisp, beautifully written piece!
    These words alone-
    I clock
    Your soft petals
    Peeking at the creeping day
Which nuzzles along my pillared verandah

    are worthy of special mention!
Your warmth and humanity are an inspiration to a cranky old misanthropist like me.
    O.x
