Wear It Purple to support gay youth at risk

WEAR IT PURPLE this Friday 15 October to raise awareness and show your support for LGBT teens in crisis.

The new Wear it Purple campaign came about in response to the horrific news that five teenagers committed suicide in the US recently.

Directed and championed by students from schools and universities throughout New South Wales and wider Australia, the campaign highlights that the mental health crisis affecting our gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered young people is not something that we are willing to sit idly by through any longer.

On the 15th of October, everyone is encouraged to wear purple wrist bands or clothing to work, school, university or wherever they may be to raise awareness of this tragedy.

IDAHO Sydney invites artists from all over the place to contribute artworks exploring issues relating to homophobia and/or identity for the 2010 Exhibition LOVE COMBATTING FEAR to be held at Kudos Gallery, Paddington, Sydney for the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) – which falls on May 17.…

IDAHO is an opportunity to challenge prejudice, discrimination and violence against gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and other sexuality and gender diverse people. The 17 May marks the 1990 date when the World Health Organisation decided to remove homosexuality from its list of mental disorders. IDAHO was first marked in 2005 and is increasingly recognised around the world and on all continents, including in Australia. The City of Sydney officially recognised IDAHO in 2010.
