Brilliant work, Robert. The model is almost at one with the wall. Love your superb use of light.
Robert Knapman
Thanks. This wall is a wonderful model also and often seduces me into using it .) Cheers

It’s what you haven’t shown us that intrigues Robert. Very subtle.

want to know what you are turning away from – this is a very emotionally charged image – love the lighting (as in the darkness) – has a great mood.
Robert Knapman
Yes the original intent was exactly that Deborah (turning away from or turning into) however I wanted a more positive take on it and hence the title. It reflects, I hope, a listening to ones self, listening to the voices on the other side of the wall / door / in the next room, to others, and also a listening to what can’t be seen (yet)...the future…on the other side of the wall or in the next moment. Listening to the voice, listening for the moment, listening for the truth…
Robert Knapman
The turning away is about turning from (even hiding from) discomfort, pain, distress, a gaze, the camera (representing truth?) – and turning to face a barren surface, an unforgiving moment or ( ... your interpretation goes here … )
Robert Knapman
Or it might just listening…just turning away from…nothing more.
Deborah Parkin
wow Robert – just came back for another look and saw your explanation – very powerful – i like the idea of turning away – sometimes it’s more expressive than the face itself (that’s why i like hands too). I got Abe to turn away in Carousel because it leaves it open to interpretation (sorry didn’t mean to plug lol!!) Back to your image – well what more can i say – i like it so much – hence coming back – i think it’s the neck too – really sensual part of the body and this is exposed – vulnerbility? – Maybe? Anyway, great image Robert.

This is a place to be…until it gets too loud…moves me somehow…

Very strong photo and great words. Listening could perhaps provide the most empowerment to mankind. However it is something many of us have trouble doing. Especially those with the ability to feel the deepest. We seem to become self absorbed in our emotions and cease to listen to life.

Great photo and really good explanation to go with it, gives us all something to think about.

Strong image…........all of us would have our own interpretation. That is what I so love about the photograph…........like a good painting, it is whatever you see in it…............love the light on the ear and neck and the flaking green wall…..........very well done.
Elizabeth Duncan
I really like this the lighting of his neck is great.
