[in soft whispering voice] Really beautiful work Robert, love the crop and the golden light. Haven’t quite worked out the significance of the organge but it’s colour works so well with the rest of the image. So many lovely textures here too.

that is very, very beautiful, Robert. Congratulations.
Robert Knapman, 7 months ago
Cheers all. I was going for something classic so I muted the colour, increased the ISO, included a prop (orange), found a good back drop, set up a distant light source, and let my creativity loose a little. The orange I hope emphasises this classic mood – as in ‘male with orange’, or still life with man’ etc and creates some balance while generating questions. It also helped I think to provide a focus for affection, intimacy, fantasy, dreams or something else .)

Wow really great comments. Thanks everyone. I started playing last night just for fun and got completly lost in the process, moment, journey of creating this. Lost a few hours that I can’t realy recall. Ahhh creation….

I don’t know where to start… I almost don’t want to start, as I feel it would disturb the feeling and warmth coming from this image. So peaceful, serene, calm and tender, yet the harsh background and the somewhat out of place (to me) orange, raises my curiousity and invites a deeper investigation. The hand draped tenderly across your neck could almost belong to someone else, someone who only exists in the background, but offers enough touch to let you know they’re there and they care. But since it’s your own hand, it could be that there is a longing for that soft touch, of being held and needed by someone who can pick you up when you’re down and offer gentle encouragement. The soft hand also is protecting from the the harsh reality in the background, acting as a buffer in some way. Heck knows what the orange signifies though… I think I need a cup of tea and lie down now :)

Well they sure were a few hours worth losing! Awesome Robert…the light, the comp, the subject…everything is working so perfectly. And somehow the orange HAS to be there, it just seems right!

I love the color noise/grain & how it flattens this in such a painterly way. You’ve put all the tech limitations to great use – low room light, high iso, etc. Fantastic piece Robert.

I love the essence you have captured in this photo. if you have ever read “Oranges are not the only fruit” I think you would understand wherre I am going. It’s written by Jeanette Winsterson I reccomend it. The fruit you are embrasing could be interprited as a symbol towards a hidden desire maybe? A desire for intimacy of some sort…
I really like the tones you set with your photos. You’re a talent that’s for sure.
I look forwards to seeing more of your work, it’s fantastic.

I agree with many of the enthusiastic comments above. I’m not quite sure why the orange seemed out of place to some people though. After all, the atmospheric quality of the piece is orange, warm, and aromatic. The title could almost read “Reclining Male in Orange”. The piece is highly organic. I can hear your breath warm your upper lip. The air is moist, and the orange fruit doesn’t let me forget the sweet juice implied. Both hands reach for succulence. The sensuality is unforgiving, as you’ve opened a dream to the viewer. The closed eyes and lips seem nothing less than an invitation. An exquisite composition, and seductive in the best taste and flavor.
Robert Knapman in reply to ein22’s comment, 20 days ago
Bit late getting back to you :) but thanks for leaving your comment. I’ve heard of “Oranges are not the only fruit” but not read it. You got the intimacy theme in one. In fact I somehow think intimacy kind of runs through my work a lot. Its been a while since I uploaded any work. Got a few ideas churning away though and can’t wait to get back to it. Cheers Andrew .)
Robert Knapman in reply to moltencrayons’s comment, 20 days ago
Hi Moltencrayons. Thanks for the comment. The sensuality is unforgiving I love you for seeing so much that I wanted to convey :)))
DarwinsMishap, 20 days ago
Unforgiving in a beautiful and amazing way. I won’t rehash what has already been put to the page, my friend. Though I can say, with complete and utter honesty… This piece would be one that if I could, I would have in my home with every honor. Stunning, beautiful, amazing work with this one.
Robert Knapman in reply to DarwinsMishap’s comment, 20 days ago
Wow, thankyou…and I would be humbled and honoured for you to have it in your home. Thanks. That makes me feel very very good .)
