Artist's Description

The big five series wouldn’t be complete without a lion, but even my good shots of the big black maned males seemed a bit trite. So I opted for this pic of a young male lion having a leasurely stretch after a big meal. He’s probably between 2 and 3 years of age. Too young to be thrown out of his original pride, but he’s getting close.

My background are two different shots in Tanzania Africa, one of a flat top forest and another of dawn on the veldt each in a layer with one multiply mode and one soft light mode.. (Yes, I did think of making grunge backgrounds when I was in Africa and made sure to get lots of scenery) Then added the lion and finished with a texture layer of gold multicolor (multiply) to pick up the tones of the lion’s coat. Then gently erased some of that layer from his face.
