Despite our circumstances or advantages, people the world over are more the same than they are different. Here a group of young Maasai women discuss their families, homes, and responsibilities and make adjustments to their finery as they wait for the men to start the performance. The only difference between them and their counterparts in New York City is that the New Yorkers would probably be on a cell phone or a blackberry instead of talking with the friends next to them.

After being widowed, I needed to find something new to occupy my mind. I chose photography. That turned into an obsession, compounded by my love of the artistic license provided by Photoshop and the many other artful programs that help us explore all the facets of turning a photo into art.

This picture speaks to me! My aunt spent seven years as a missionary in Kenya and only returned to the UK, when her health broke down due to malaria. She loved the African people and was heartbroken to have to leave them. Adding this superb capture to my Favourites.

  • Thanks so much. In a very short time I was able to see the immense strength and fortitude that the Maasai women possess. Hard not to respect them.
