Shawl dancer by Linda Sparks

Shawl dancer by

These ladies are much like Irish dancers in that their upper bodies remain mostly motionless (except for the occasional shawl swirl) while their feet are going miles a minute in an intricate series of steps. The impression is elegant and serene. They are keeping the traditions of their people alive.

Of course, they never have the nice uncluttered background they deserve, so I created one with two separate background shots of mine. I’ve learned to take them in the same locale as the dances. This was at the Wa:k PowWow at San Xavier mission.

About Linda Sparks

After being widowed, I needed to find something new to occupy my mind. I chose photography. That turned into an obsession, compounded by my love of the artistic license provided by Photoshop and the many other artful programs that help us explore all the facets of turning a photo into art.
