Should a child be seen and not heard?

Silence is golden but if one does not speak how will he spend the gold?
Of course if one speaks too much then what gold will he have to spend?

It’s a term I’ve seen used by an adult towards a child. This adult seemed to believe in the saying "Children should be seen not heard’’ but what this adult didn’t seem to see was that a child in nature represents innocents in a pure form and innocent gold spent can give great happiness.

The wisdom of a child is a pure wisdom no adult will ever have. We have it when we are a child but we lose it fast and never get it back. To hear a child say "the sky is crying’’ is worth a lot more than to hear a scientist give an explanation.

Children who speak have a way of putting a smile on your face so why tell a child that silence is golden when they’re words are so much more? When you’ve had a bad day which would you rather hear? Would you rather hear an adult say "Looks like it’s gonna rain’’ or would you rather hear a child ask "The sky is turning gray…is it sick?’’

If a child is seen and not heard then the old lady sitting by the window will never enjoy the sound of an innocent expression that could give her the memory of when she was a child.

Should a child be seen and not heard? by

I’ve seen the expressions "children should be seen not heard’’ and "a child should only speak when spoken to’’ and frankly I do not approve of this. Some of my happiest moments come from things my 4 year old cousin says. Imagine how much less happy I would be if I didn’t get to hear these things.

I hope when you read this you read it with an open mind a kind heart. There is much that could be criticized here. This piece is not meant to look perfect or professional. You may not like it at all. You could 100% disagree with it. I only put this up to share with you my thoughts. Please take it for what it’s worth.

Excellent perspective! My mother loves children and says they keep her young. Children do say the cutest things and often remind me of my youthful days. When I was a child I used to try to sneak a peak at the Weeping Willow tree to see it cry and I thought the moss that hanged from the tree outside my house was the tree’s snot. My niece keeps me chuckling and laughter is a pretty powerful medicine!
