An original portrait painting of the dramatic tropical plant, Bird of paradise, with distinctive iridescent orange and midnight blue flowers that resemble an exotic bird peeking out from the broad leaves, with close-up focus on the flower center with complementary blue stamen and orange petals depicted in larger than life size, and the dramatic lighting in the dark background emphasizing the luminous flower.
This piece of art is hand painted by award winning watercolor artist and daily painter Arena Shawn. It fits in a standard 11"x 14" photo frame and will looks great both on the counter of your personal space, or on the wall of your living room. The vibrant color of the artwork will enhance the decor in any room, adding a touch of liveliness and warmth to primarily cold colored interiors, and works in harmony with primarily warm colored interiors. It’s an ideal gift to an avid gardener or florist friend, a mother with a green thumb, a wife who is a lover of flowers, or perhaps, just for your own enjoyment, as a reminder of those warm, bright, summer days and romance associated with it.

Medium: Watercolor on Arches paper, Signed, Original
This painting is one of my “Exuberance” Series of Close-up floral executed in a primarily red-orange palette, in the attempt of capturing the warmth and liveliness of contained in a single blossom.
The concept of the painting came into my mind when I was chatting with friends around camp fire on Thanksgiving night. The red-orange flame and warmth of friendship lingered in my mind throughout the evening, and later on when I sat and sketched out the flame patterns as I saw them in my mind’s eye on my “thank you” note cards, I start to see shapes of flowers in them. Realizing that a lot of flowers actually possess the same palette of the fiery red-orange, I felt more and more captivated by the concept of flowers as small, contained, delicate fires of life that are so often taken as granted, but so strong and impressive when one really observes them carefully. Eventually this led to my decision of painting a series of close-up floral with primarily warm red-orange palette to embody this concept.
