LOVE IN BLACK & WHITE

The boat of a future horizon sails away
a chance to board a distant past tense for you
dusk and dawn becoming the forgotten hue

There’s a yearning that follows
questions asked so very quietly
tidal undercurrents of why and the why not

Dive too deep, too soon or not at all
and navigate without compass regretful squalls
Quarrelsome lips biting on brittle words

Lucky or un-lucky at the toss of a stray coin
Love lost or not found recedes our hopeful shores
Our armour rusts with the err of left all alone woes

To try and tame this creature called Love
is flying blind into the dark without wings
Shall we instead look to accept our animal within?
A soul fashioned paw print to confess
though a lifetime may not complete the test

The boat now further out of reach
a spec upon the line of time
A sty in your mind’s eye swelled by unchained fate

To be done with love for all to eat of remorse and dust
An aching heart blued in the bruise of love unadorned
Bloodied in the ripe colour of uneaten fruit

We curse our desire for what we cannot have
The sour without the desired sweet
an unfinished recipe of love seasoned with the salts of hate

Steal into that beaten life of shove and must
A hidden dance of a jester who dreams for rare gold
Nothing bought, nothing sold
Yet love may still seek your love torn raggedy door

Forge a heart jacket to fool proof the heart from love’s rip
Still to hit bottom ground, to sink and drown
The balance of love tips your world upside down

Plain to see in the small print of Love’s manifesto
Love does not play by our rules
It’s undeniable
It’s Love in Black & White

A reworked piece I am thinking I may read tonight at a local Poetry Event I have been invited to attend.
The theme of tonight’s poetry is ‘Love’.

Feelings and words fall on to the page
Sometimes they bite back
Sometimes they tug on our sleeve
Sometimes they have a cheeky grin
They stay once a page has found them
Words are faithful to us even in the dark

And in all in shades of grey, being both black and while, and neither. I think there might be some grey areas that manifesto., too… :)

  • Thanks Dick for dropping by to read this. I read this at a launch of a local poetry event tonight……have come home with mixed feelings about it all. I have doubts about a lot of things unfortunately perhaps some of those grey areas shown up x

Love certainly has a mind of its own and is strong as titanium. Heart felt prose my darling, I feel you in this so deeply. Much love xoxoxoxo

  • Hi Ms Lisa
Tis me here after going to a poetry event where I braved an open mic reading of this piece……not sure if I should have ventured out with this…. felt like I didn’t belong somehow. Anyhoo that is old news and you are the good news for being here and being my friend. xxx

I’m a bit lost for words here KS but I just wanted to give this a nod. Love, xx

  • Hi Jane
I entirely agree with you…..tis not a poem about love being the best thing ever but is about how we will still desire to be loved or want to love no matter the price we may pay at times.
    xx

A deep write within black and white, you are such a good wordsmith Karen,
Lots of grey matter within this write!
    …Brit….

  • Hi there
You sure hit it them mark with your grey matter observation. This indeed was a cerebral commentary on some of the sailings of love. Thanks so much for your astuteness and generous kindness :O))

Love is always in black and white. That’s what makes it so hard.
Excellent write, Karen Sue. Really felt this.

love is not for the weak of heart dear friend for surely as it can make one strong it can also make another fall to one’s knees… it tantalises our desires or can comfort our aloneness and we know not which until we taste its fruits… be it sweet, be it bitter, be it of head or be it of heart, love will always make itself known in all its white glory or black solitude. It drives us, it taunts us, it comforts us, and all in all there’s no denying we know when it touches us. A real piece to read, KS. Great to read you and great to see that you are reading at poetry events. Much love. xoxo
