Melancholia

Melancholia smiles with me, she has lilac in her hair.
The same scent of days where innocence strode in my steps.
My feet ache some today.
I have known the weary of fallen arches of lost dreams and chasing long ended rainbows.
Today it’s only a little ache not the ache of lost causes and forgotten hopes.

Melancholia is here with me but there’s a freedom softening my cheeks.
I would like to say I am blooming but there is this coat of cliche hanging on the limbs of breezes and that irks me.
I’m at peace with Melancholia that is my focus.
She’ll still keep a place for me for those times I need to shrug my shoulders and peer into the fading dawn.

Not that long ago keeping company with her peeled my feelings away to a parasitic corruption.
A recrudescence of sore heart.
The folly of unfinished would line up and heat the seat from underneath me.

Today I ache just a little while I see the eyes of them that don’t blink anymore.

Arcadia Tempest

Melancholia by

An old friend with the same scent but more fragrant and less sting.
Recrudescence – a return of something after a period of abatement; “a recrudescence of racism”; “a recrudescence of the symptoms” outbreak, irruption, eruption – a sudden violent spontaneous occurrence (usually of some undesirable condition); “the outbreak of hostilities”

About Arcadia Tempest

Feelings and words fall on to the page
Sometimes they bite back
Sometimes they tug on our sleeve
Sometimes they have a cheeky grin
They stay once a page has found them
Words are faithful to us even in the dark

isn’t it wonderful when we can focus our thought about things that ‘used to’ seemingly control our feeling good, with a new story, I love this.

  • Gosh this was written on such dreary day in respects to weather, mood, the list of must do’s….. yet I am glad that I can look back and see how melancholia can have a melody that has a crooning tune as well. Thank you kindly for your thoughts on this piece. xxx

This has stilled my thoughts. I think it is a good things to just shift into neutral and allow the waves of past and present wash over us. Offering no resistance and just allowing is good at times. Melanchoia is like everyone else she has a purpose when she appears. We need only to still ourselves and listen. Beautifully reflective Karen.

Beautifully expressed Doll..I especially like the line ‘she’ feels, " there’s a freedom softening my cheeks."…I guess melancholia is a time of deep refection and hopefully a feeling will come of empowerment and hope.
    Love to you Karen
