Bittersweet Litmus Test

It is bittersweet to taste again from the well
that dried hard on a day
the rain forgot to kiss the ground

Your tongue be your litmus test for such moments
possibility did dry to salt in your cup
a little death on our hill of remember

The harp of melancholy playing our rib cage
twanging the brittle
resonating the sour succor of what was

Shed the bark of restless cracked skin
request a level alkaline drink of calm repose
acid regret eats the heart from within

Be the Litmus for bitter and sweet
sweet for a call to see courage
bitter the scraps we leave behind
counterweight the view with a promise
