Mud in your bucket

Blue skies gave way to a hubble of bucket down clouds that plonked penny drops upon the landscape below.
Driving in my car I was protected from those big rain globs that fell and I felt smug and safe.

Tempted as I was to switch off the window wipers to better observe the splud of each drop I knew too well that driving rain blindfolded is a very dangerous sport.
I may be a misfit rascal but I’m surely no scallywag daredevil without a raincoat.

I’ve never liked those whizzy put your spinal fluid in a spin sideshow rides.
My pref wavers more to the entertainment of watching a spider weave a sparkly web or analyzing the way someone walks with the hope to discover a hint of their personality, spying on a dog making love to the sun and singing without one hint of musical tone.

Those clouds in the upper atmosphere perhaps know the art of dexterity with their rolling of vapor into water drops.
And then releasing them sometimes a gushing relief at that!
I just knew the clouds today were saying "Ahhhhh that’s better”.
An unburdening of worldly wise liquid.

Further along the rain dissipated into my other favorite, freckles.
Freckle rain pitter titters and produces ready to join dot to dot pictures on clear objects like car windscreens.
I dare myself to make a picture when no-one is looking.

I am cloud.
I make mud pie.
I collect and then I rain some ink on some pages.
Or I burst a rush of words that crunk out sentences.
I eat thoughts and fill up on the dirt and water of what was in the thought bucket and sometimes just sigh a crust of ‘what now?’.

RED LIGHT
STOP!!
Sentimentality …..did you see how it creeps in, such a sneak.
“Move out of the way….. you EMOTION HOG!”
Oh pardon my Ink Rage……. must be something in the rain of late.
I want to be leathery and sodden mean and laugh at those without wet weather gear.
Hmm there must be static in some unrealized ink under my skin in need of thundering.

this is such a pleasure to read, with it’s alliteration and imagery…..we’re so dry here that i felt pangs of jealousy while reading this, LOL! anyway, this gives the reader more that just a “hint” of your personality, too, my friend, and it’s wonderful!! XOXOXOX

  • Hi Lisa
I know when I read other people’s weather stories and if it contrasts what is happening in my back pocket it adds more somehow to what I read.
Snow….now when I read stories of snow that really makes me yearn to be able to build a snowman……xxx

I so love the rain and I SO loved your delightful descriptions. Oh and MUD!!! My grand babies just love that I let them not only make mud but PLAY in the mud. :D My son thinks it’s fine since he grew up with a mom who let him play in the mud. I’m not so sure my daughter-in-law thinks it’s so fine, but she knows not to upset the apple cart in this little matter. Oh and there I go again, chattering on aimlessly…. Oh yes, I love the rain and your beautiful description thereof. :)

  • Hi Kareen
It was so lovely to read of your mud making activities with the kiddlywinks….. I am a bit of tidy up nut myself so the idea of messy mud pies pushes my ’ What a mess button’ ….. you’d think I wouldnt be so ‘anal’ about it really…..but there I confess I am more like your daughter-n-law but I would rather be more like you me thinks…xx

inspiring comes to my simplistic mind when reading such evocative prose……rain is a favorite thing for me.

  • Hi there
Yep me too….rain is something I have made friends with over the years.
Once upon a time the rain would push my mood to where it was unproductive but now it really is a different kind of bucket ;O)
