'Lady Australia' A Yanks Impression
‘Lady Australia’ is my first collaboration. Eugenia Bacon of ‘Myslewis’ is my Australian friend. I have known and admired her for amost two years now. When I first got on the web at greeting card universe I had only been on the computer for a couple of months and she kindly took pity on me :-D, [ I was making one snafu after another ] she lead me through the trials of learning Photoshop, [ advantage of having an Australian friend, I work at night and she was up to answer my questions no mather how silly they were ]. I have always loved her work. She is the first to encourage me to explore color and here are the results. I hope you like it. I have used her line drawing, ‘Venetian Style Mask’, you can see it as a birthday card here on Redbubble.
When I was decorating this, the song ‘Waltzing Matilda” kept running through my head. I had always heard the upbeat versions. I was looking on You-Tube and found this version. I warn you this will tug your tear ducts, I hadn’t really listened to the words before.

I am especially honored that this design has been featured twice. You have a Yank that thinks Australia, it’s people, and redbubble are pretty special. As you can tell I have been influenced by that dramatic sense of color that are a trademark of all the Australian artist that I have met on the web. I have put this design on a T-shirt now so you can not only look at it, you can wear it :-).
Note: I just got a reproduction back, the color is outstanding. The brilliant color you see on screen is what you will get
This is Eugenia’s ‘Venetian Style Mask’, I elongated it [an old fashion artist trick] then took quite a bit of liberty, but made sure I left the wonderful bones intact.

I’ve got it not for sale until I can run a reproduction color check on it. I put stuff on as cards at Greeting Card Universe, [ their color reproduction is excellent and pretty consistant ] I know if the reproduction is good there it should come out ok on Redbubble. Plus I’m a pensioner too, and there I can pay out of my earnings :-D.

This is remarkable, particularly reading about your Photoshop education. This is one of my first collaborations HERE, a bit different kind of one I know, and my education from my Australian friends has been about the country itself, the very different cities and states there, critters and birds, weather, cultures, I am thoroughly constantly being enriched through this Red Bubble place
Norval Arbogast
Syd, I just looked at your collaboration, you knocked my socks off. I wouldn’t even know where to begin on something like that. I had never heard of or seen a fractal until I joined Zazzle last year. still don’t know how it’s done.

Norval Arbogast replied
Bev, I watch everything I can on TV about Australia, there was a three part series on called ‘My Australia’, that where I got the idea for some of the jewelry. Australian artist use of bright color is a big influence.

Freedom contained.
It is hard to achieve it.
To submmit the movement of lines and objects of decoration or symbolism… but you have got it.
So she is attracting most of our attention,
for the shake of the her intense look and fantasy.
Really wonderful.

Norval Arbogast replied
You caught the Ideas in it, that makes me happy, it wasn’t meant to be just fluff.

Looks like you had a wonderfull teacher and a great talent of your own.. this is absolutely stunning.. love it!
Walzing Mathilda might give the idea of a happy song where in fact it is one of the sadest songs ever.. x
Norval Arbogast replied
That really surprised me, having heard it used in so many movies in fast time I always thought it was a happy song. The words are wonderful.
Songwriter
I think your ‘teacher’ must be over the moon at your tribute. It is so wonderful and that version of ‘Waltzing Matilda’ is perfect with it. Great work. :0) Song

So, I opened your link and listened to the song Waltzing Matilda and I must tell you, my eyes opened wide as I have heard this song in my childhood, but never did I truly understand what it was about until now, and as a cold wind continuously blew over me, I wept as I listened to the song and watched the amazing heartbreaking video. I am deeply moved to see this profoundly moving video is linked with such beauty with your lovely work of art. It is an astounding tribute Norval for the souls who were lost in such a senseless war and for all those who survived such a tragedy. For me, therefore, this image is a tragic beauty. Mahalo
Norval Arbogast replied
It was the same here, I have heard the song my whole life and thought it was a cocky victory song. I was going through Utube and I like the ‘Three Tenors’ so took a listen. Wow!, moving, the words sure have changed my perspective on a lot of things.
Sharon Mau
Aloha Norval, congratulations on your feature today in Dimensions
