You really got it this time! Photographed beautifully.
Barbie is not a natural shape : the eyes point out the “deformed” parts
    to me.
    Bravo!

  • amanda Rae replied

oh thankyou you so very very much…im often worrying that folk will not understand at all..or just think im a female frankenstine with too much too say…youve made my day…

Yet another marvelous work, truly! Wow, aRae! I like mmargot and Jan’s comments above. Additionally, the eyes immediately reminded me of how/why women are portrayed & valued, or rather which of their body parts that are oogled over and emphasized… not their minds.

(And of course, I don’t mean to imply that the body shouldn’t be admired. You’re not a female frankenstein.)

  • amanda Rae replied

thanks everso Marcella…i worry so much about them…but love createing them..

this is very beautiful. the form and the materials you used. I think they must be awesome in real life.

  • amanda Rae replied

Thankyou John.in reply to .”I think they must be awesome in real life”.
i think the reality of them is often very shocking..
to the point of being quite vulga often…but that is my opinion of the subject matter quite often so i guess i should be pleased..just wish i could tone it down a bit sometimes !! thanks everso for your feedback..

  • Tahnja

    Tahnja

wow, the eyes are truly amazing because at first it looks entirely decorative and then you realise what they really are and it’s just striking

  • amanda Rae replied

Thanks for your comments and time taken..if i could make a wish for the world it would be that we loved ourselves and others just as God had made us x

oh I so agree and I find myself saying it a lot too when talking with others. And there’s also nothing wrong with wanting to be a better person as well. I exercise and keep healthy and have lost almost 25 kilos but I did it because I wanted to feel as beautiful outside as I do on the inside, not because of any other reason. Hugs

Haha it took me a moment or so to realize the eyes were eyes. very clever. a neat reversal.

Confronting? yes… vulgar? no. Direct/oblique and to the point, yes! Discomfortingly so… maybe!

What’s neat is that when you look at those parts of the body with the eyes you see them ‘looking’ back at you… what I meant by a neat reversal. And so the point made is undeniable… viewer saw the eyes because viewer looked there!
I do greatly admire the human form (particularly female form!) and delight in that, but can also appreciate the way this piece reflects the discomfort felt by anyone being made an ‘object’ of scrutiny without deeper engagement with who they are.

    You done good!

May interest you… ‘Protest as an artform’
