Over the years I have spent a lot of time cataloging the variety of cichlid species in my collection. Several years back I took a step back and re-evaluated my work. My conclusion was that it was all too clinical…simply another photograph of that particular species. It was running out of gas.
I started taking photos 30+ years ago. I started taking photos of my fish back when digital was introduced. So rather than looking for the norm…a snapshot…I started looking to capture the moments that capture the nature and beauty of the fish. At that point I felt both of my passions merged.
I often tell folks that “I enjoy photographing them as much as I do keeping them”. I will rephrase that now and say “I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I do taking them.”
