I use a Canon 350D with a 60mm 2.8 macro lense and a Speedlite 430EX to shoot these shots. You need the flash because at maximum magnification the amount of light ireaching the sensor is reduced. The magnification is 1:1 which means it appears life size on the sensor which is only 2.2×1.5cm so when you blow the image up to a 6×4 print it’s magnifies 3 times. Given the Canon is 8MP I guess you could get a 30cm by 20cm print without loosing quality so the magnification would be 13 times!

Wow Marina, that’s so impressive! How much magnification did you need?
