April Koehler

I am a photographer in a small town in Minnesota. I like reading, watching movies, listening to music, looking at art online, hiking, camping, and spending time with my husband and our dog. My passion, however, is photography. As a child, I loved drawing, coloring, writing stories, creating things, and playing with cameras. As I got older, I started to think I had lost all of that creativity and that I was a numbers person…not an artist. A few years ago, after I showed my mother-in-law some poems I wrote in high school, I told her that I wished I was still creative. She said that I am; I just have to find it again. After a while, I decided to try photography again (I had taken a film photography class in high school). In 2009, I bought my DSLR and taught myself digital photography through books and the internet. I now realize that she was right. I’ve always been creative, I just lost touch with my inner child for a while.
