You’ve got 5 days to spare too! I get a bit squeamish about anything close to an eye, and this image gives me the same feelings. The eye is so real and the pencil is so close AHHHHH!

It’s a window, the hand is in this reality but it’s monochrome, yet the eye and the canvas is in a distant reality but its in colour. Are we missing a greater reality? Very disorienting, and Very enjoyable.

Great work of art April. Keep the viewer thinking and wondering about the image!

  • Thanks Harry for that kind comment. Great to know what it made you think of. I wanted the artists hand to be dull compared to the art it is creating. The hand isn’t important, but the materials it is using ARE.

Dare I ask if this lovely drawing was influenced in any way by Escher’s famous drawing of his hands?

  • Not really. I wanted to draw my hand holding a pencil in my idea, because it gave me an excuse to do the hand study in graphite I had been planning for a long time. That said, I see your point. I am a fan of Escher though especially his hand holding the steel ball reflecting himself and the room behind.

……….. by the way, I think the way you have drawn the pencils is superb.

  • Thank you. While I love Faber-Castell’s logo, I prefer pencils with NO tiny writing or little knights on horses jousting though!!
