The Betrayal

The Betrayal by April Cowan

The Betrayal

This is the first piece in my HSC major works. The series in total is called “Ascendancy” which means domination or influincing figure, but also has connotations to the ascention of Mary in Christianity. Basically what i tried to do was to show how humanity’s expression of faith has changed, evolved, or even stayed the same. “The Betrayal” is basically a contemporary version of the betrayel of Jesus my Judas.

Compressed Charcoal on Paper
size: 110×59 cms

I would like to thank the wonderful photographer who allowed me to use his brilliant photographs as references throughout the series: mehmet turgut . His page on DeviantART is (http://mehmeturgut.deviantart.com/) and the link to the particular photo for this piece is (http://mehmeturgut.deviantart.com/art/gravity-part-2f-26831677)

WOW again April. Such a dramatic and powerful image. Love the man’s right hand stretched out against the darkness. Looks amazing. Again, it is the power and energy you capture in your work that I feel drawn to. Cannot wait to see some of your new work.

^^ haha, i feel really bashful, after going through all these comments! this piece, i have to admit, was incredibly fun, especially watching people’s reactions after i’d finished =P my sister is afraid of it, lol.
I’m afraid new work might take some time – i’ve just began uni, studying fine arts, and there is that much work – i have to get used to that before i start doing some things on my own, that aren’t basic techniques and the like. But, all the same, i really appreciate that you added me to your watch list!
