Jonah Ran From God - Jonah 1:1-3

Jonah Ran From God

Jonah ran from God,
Across the land he trod;
Anywhere he thought,
To hide and not get caught.

Omnipresent he found out,
Meant God was on that same boat;
And when he bent and swayed,
God prepared a special way.

A fish – one gulp and then,
Jonah was hidden deep within;
After three long days inside,
Jonah lost all of his pride.

Dear God, he knelt and prayed,
I was wrong to not obey;
I’ll do whatever you wish,
If I ever escape this fish.

His hair as white as snow,
And, his skin took on a glow;
When he found himself on shore,
The fish was gone once more.

To Ninevah with haste,
There was no time to waste;
In forty days he’d see,
God’s words come to be.

But, he never really believed,
God’s Word would be received;
The people did repent,
In sackcloth and ashes they went.

Still Jonah pouted and cried,
I might as well have died;
I knew God would give in,
If the city turned from sin.

Then he heard God from above,
Explain that His perfect love;
Forgave every man his sin,
If they repented and let Him in.

A Jonah I never want to be,
So, God always watch over me;
Remind me how blessed I am,
That I may share Your love with men.

Jonah 1:1-3 Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
