Baby Barred Owl

WA state

Nikon D70

This little guy was actually in our backyard and my daughter says there were two of the babies although I never did see the 2nd one. As I was photographing, my daughter also pointed out the mother. She was sitting a couple of trees back, watching… The little guy never moved the whole time, I doubt I would have ever spotted him if my daughter hadn’t shown me.

    I love Owls!!!!!! They are my weakest Owl ornaments photos anything Owl! I am so hoping once my husband and I fix up our backyard slope and yard with wilflowers, fruit trees and veges that that Owls may visit the old trees with holes by the creek.Hoping!!! This is a magnificent photo Ann, Brillance!:-}

  • Thank-you!!! :-) There were actually two of these babies, although I never did see the other one. My youngest daughter showed me this one, she’s an animal lover and always notices the birds. I was having a blast photographing this baby, it never moved at all, when my daughter pointed out the mom sitting in a tree, up a little bit higher, a few trees back. I had never even noticed her! She was just guarding her family I expect. I don’t know how to attract owls but it sounds like you have a great start with the old trees! Hope you soon see some!

    Beautiful love his perch!! How big was he??

  • Oh, I’m awful with that type of thing! 8-) Maybe, about 12" tall? Kind of hard to guess, he was a little ways away and up much higher than I was. The tree was a pretty good sized one. Thanks for visiting and commenting! :-)
