The Northern Cardinal is one of the birds that is found in the Rouge. ..............................The male is bright red, with a black bill, while the female is grayish with a pink crest and bill. They are fairly common in Ontario and Quebec, and have been sighted in New Brunswick…............................. They frequent woodlands; but cardinals may be attracted to your back yards, with bird feeders well stocked with sunflower seeds. They are shy; yet curious; and the slightest motion or camera sound will cause them to take flight. Photographing them with any degree of success takes time. The image was taken on a gray RAINY overcast day; the result being saturated colors…..Bird was singing on the tree…while it was drizzling rain…I was covered with rain coat and hat with camera wrapped in the plastic….so the title came to me as SINGING IN THE RAIN by Frank Sinatra….
TECH: Nikon D200 camera, nikon 600 mm wildlife lens F8 at /15 sec shutter speed….

I’d have to say: this one original without frame is great – your photos speak for themselves as perfect captures but I, like you, LOVE frames as when they are done “right”, they add a great deal to the photos, make them tastefully artistic, don’t you think my friend? Pretty bird, great photography. BTW, in my opinion framing is rarely necessary, as most frames cannot match the quality of your shots. Anyway, splendid work, as usual!

It took so long to scroll down i forgot what picture it was!!!!! ; )
the impression of the shine on the limb gives it a snow feel that suits the cardinal best i think. There are so many of them here in Virginia that it’s our STATE BIRD, so we see them all year ‘round, but SNOW seems to be the best photo-op shot for this guy…and you did good: )

You are so right, Bianca. Cardinals are extremely skittish and take flight at the least noise or movement. They seem to sense human presence and are acutely alert, so that makes it very hard to get a good shot of them. Congratulations on this female cardinal portrait. It is superb as are all your wildlife photos. A gem!
