This is Man Alone the mandrill. He lives in Limbe Wildlife Centre in Cameroon. I had the priviledge of meeting him whilst working there.

He used to live in very bad conditions – in a tiny cage where he couldn’t even turn round. Hence his name. The cage is now kept at the centre to show how much life has improved for him.

Now he is leader of the group with lots of wives and babies!

Taken with Nikon D50 and 80-400 mm lens

Magnificent shot Jane. I have also had the honour of meeting this beautiful old man, and he is the epitome of what I aspire all humans to be.

To be treated as he was, and still, look upon his human keepers now, as well as his visitors, with forgiveness, and love – to be happy enough and forgiving enough to carry on with life, and to thrive and reproduce – Well, it just amazes me.

How may humans could, or would, be this forgiving – it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about this beautiful kind soul.

  • Thanks Jul. Yes you are so right with what you say about forgiveness and thriving inspite of past circumstances. Weren’t we honoured to spend some time with him?
