I don’t know how I got here
oh I remember but in a greater sense
I drifted to these shores
one desperate choice after another
it figures I would land on an island
which I seldom leave maybe 3 or 4 times
a year when I must
more animals more trees
than people
if you time it right
hardly anyone knows you live here
the first person I met was a cabby with
a cowboy hat
running for mayor
he said people who think they want to live
on an island but never have
watch the ferry pull out of port
and suddenly realize that they are stranded
on island far out at sea
only a few realize they have finally made it home
after what seems an endless improbable journey
