Stampede

Stampede

During muster at Palamaka in 1956 cattle stampeded through the scrub for miles. The rumble was like an earth quake, and the dust was rising in huge clouds covering the sun. This is the sight as they broke from the scrub out onto the clay-pan.

What a wonderful sense of energy and vibrancy you’ve created! Awesome light – the shadows it creates from the animal legs are beautiful!

Thanks lightsmith, Neil, Louise, carpenter and Helene. I treasure this one because it represents a frightening experience when I was 19. I was as high as I could get up a dead tree which was wobbling and swaying. I was petrified. I took this as a colour slide with my Voigtlander Vitessa, which I later lost under an avalanch in New Zealand. On reflection, I don’t know how I survived this long. Although this one means a great deal to me, I put it in RedBubble a little tongue in cheek. I really didn’t think it had much appeal to others, so I am delighted with your remarks.

Sorry Philip I only just read your note. I don’t know how I missed it. I have been living in Mount Gambier since 1961. Was painting full time back then and had my own gallery, but had to give it all up when I bought Camera Techna in 69. The name was later changed to Colortech Camera House, and when I started the photographic studio ‘Colortech Studio’ in 80 and later the processing lab ‘Photoquick’ in 86 I became far too busy to paint. I closed the camera store in 99 and sold Photoquick the same year. I now do wedding photography and in the rest of my time I paint.I currently live at Port MacDonnell. Email geoff@bigfoot.com.au 0427692224.
Contact me by all means. Chances are I judged your work if you exhibited in the Mount Gambier show. Good luck. Sorry I took so long to reply.
