For my final project for Illustration 1 I decided to do a character promo for the main “antagonist” of my upcoming webcomic, These Things Happen.

The character is Nepenthe, a psychopomp who manifests primarily as a raven and controls a massive flock of sparrows. I was inspired to create an Art Nouveau portrait in the style of Alphonse Mucha. I tried to include elements relevant to psychopomps; sparrows, a certain type of flower, pomegranates, and hour glasses. I even included some Enochian Script in the border!

Medium: Gouache, utilizing the Lift-off technique for the figure.
Time: About 20 hours.
