Harbour Gateway by Anthony Davey
Clear

This is the view presented to overseas passengers from cruise ships etc. when they enter Sydney off a ship. i always like the view from here and set myself a self assignment (during my tech years) to capture it.
It was fairly challenging to keep the tonal range under control, as you can see there is plenty of shadows with sunlit details at the rear of shot, The trick is to stop the shadows from blocking up and the highlights from flaring out. I think i pulled it off and i’m happy I was able to keep some tonality in the sky too.
Probably Tmax100 with some fancy development technique to tame the contrast (might even have been the famous “waterbath Technique”

This is very well composed; I liek the tone of the balck and white; the image is very pleasing.

  • Thanks very much AngelArtist, I think it’s the verticalness, leading lines and extended tonal range that makes it work.
