Why I Write

You write like a goddess

Another Tour de force. I am speechless

20/20 this essay is so good if you were here I would kiss you

Can I keep your essay to share with other students

… Above and beyond these comments from academics and teachers I ponder why from the age of 8 I felt compelled to write…

Why I Write

I write to breathe and to tease the fragmented thoughts
that flitter through my head.

I write to provoke feelings to stimulate thought as
I partake in this universal conversation.

I write to feel the powerful emotions that
pulse and scream for expression.

I write to clarify and muse and move
thoughts beyond what they first appear.

I write to capture the banter between
my heart and mind as they struggle for voice.

I write to serenade and pleasure
your imagination with images of aching truth.

I write to inspire, delight and seduce
your beating heart.

I write to create a new world where blinkers
are removed and the possibilities go on forever.

I write to live fully, not partly,
to live passionately, to live consciously.

I write to record my journey into the soul and
to find an island of warmth at the core.

I write to stop the insanity and to speak
ultra sensitivity that is my inside.

I write to let my soul Tango, my heart Salsa
and my mind Hip Hop.

I write to explore life from
different points of view.

I write to reveal my vulnerability to you and
by doing so allow you to know who I am, who you are.

I write because I love words and their
intense power to touch, to heal, to make love.

I write to know I am not alone
I write to know that I love
I write to set my spirit free
I write to express wild passion for thee
I write to know myself
I write to connect to you
I write to shift my sadness, my pain
I write to stop me from going insane
I write to transform obstacles
I write to escape to be present
I write to create worlds, characters that were never there
I write to know I am here
I write because writing is like breathing to me
I write to help others to see
I write because it is natural, spontaneous pleasure
I write because life is delicious, a treasure
I write because I want to live life twice

…But most importantly I write because to me to write,
is to live.

Creating art and writing is like breathing to me, it keeps me alive. If I stop creating my world shrinks and contracts. When I start to create again it expands and is filled with colour. I feel whole. To create is to be completely, unabashedly alive.
