A delicate round water droplet
traces the curve of a fragile green leaf
during its journey the droplet stays full
but leaves a trail of wetness behind.

Super sensitive … hyper sensitive
too sensitive … extremely sensitive,
sensitive a word indented like the mark
of the beast on my forehead

Why did they scoff and frown when
they spat the – S word at me?
‘You feel too much … you think too much
you are always too much’.
As if to be born sensitive was a curse,
sensitivity a dirty word.

Why? I could never understand why
sensitivity was frowned on because
to me it was the character quality I adored most and
sought out in every eye I looked into.

Observing people interact I watched how they
handled each other and craved always
to see sensitivity that enabled
one person to hold and contain another. Ah.

Watching movies I always adored the sensitive one.
Reading books the one who cared the deepest
and the person who felt the most
was my hero. I loved their softness.

Sensitivity, I know as a mature woman
is difficult to maintain through a life time
Hurt has a way of bashing the sensitivity out
making some jade and grow bitter.

I regard sensitivity as the most precious gem,
the greatest and most powerful strength,
a birthright worth fighting for to maintain
the holy grail of the human soul.

Sensitivity is linked to open heartedness
and generosity of spirit.
It enables us to empathise and to place ourselves
into another’s skin and to feel their blood
feelings race through our veins.

Sensitivity is the key to a compassionate heart.
It is the most pure expression of
our divine inner child.
It is the bridge to our spontaneous creative spirit
that cries for expression.

Sensitivity is the tour de force of our soul
that enables us to feel all senses simultaneously.
It is the life force that enables us
to experience to the full extent all our emotions.
Feel our feelings without hiding or inhibition.

Boxed, labelled, defined, accused -
sensitive as a little girl.
I have worn this mantle with pride and joy
in my heart, even though it was not
intended to be worn this way.

Being Ultra sensitive has meant that
pain has often visited and become a best friend
because pain and sensitivity are close companions.
One triggers the other. At 18 I decided that I would
never jade and decided to face, confront and deal
with pain so that I could be sensitive always.

A good friend once said You are the extremes of
human emotion… intensely soft and sensitive and yet
incredibly strong at the other end of spectrum. Integration
will be a theme for you
Boom. What a lens to see the soul.
They were right.
Defending the right to be sensitive I had to be very strong.

Often I muse as to where my love and obsession with
sensitivity began. I believe it began with my beautiful
father John Slade
who was the embodiment of kindness,
essence of sensitivity and
the epitome of inner strength.

John Slade was kind and good.
His love was pure and out of unconditional
love of me as a child, my esteem and voice was born.
At 8, It was his death and his life line being ripped
away that gave birth to the artist and writer in me.

Over the mountains I have soared
and in the valleys I have fallen,
a constant in my life has been seeking
the warmth of sensitivity to bask and revel in.
It was my start and I am determined for it to be my finish,
because it was bestowed on me as a birthright.

Sensitivity is the breath of life to me.
It is the kiss of dew on my cheek
It is the torrential rain that penetrates my skin
It is the moments in life that leave an indelible
mark on your soul.
It is the sweet glue in life that binds my heart to
yours for all eternity.

I build a shroud to sensitivity and to my death
will I defend my right to be sensitive
and it is with this stand I move towards writing
a Revolution In Kindness.
