Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Upclose by Anthea Slade

Painted with acrylic and ink

3rd in my Top Ten Movie Series.

’I’m not living with you.’ Maggie snaps at Brick,
‘We occupy the same cage, that’s all’…‘I feel like a cat on a hot tin roof.’ The raw emotions and the crackling dialogue between Maggie (Elizabeth Taylor) and Brick (Paul Newman) creates sizzling tension as Maggie demonstrates passionate loyalty and love towards Brick (her husband) who has completely disengaged from her and emotionally shut her out. She holds on to him with tenacity as he rejects her over and over. Maggie fights for Brick hoping that he will rewaken his love for her and be with her again.

Cat on a Hot Tin roof was based on Tennessee Williams 1955 Pulitzer Prize-Winning Play. Paul Newman earned his first Oscar Nomination for his nuanced portrayal of a troubled sports hero Brick.

  • Oh thank you so much dear Matty for this beautiful response. Ever since Elizabeth Taylor died I have been wanting to do a drawing of her. She was such a spirited and beautiful woman and a great actress. And I think she and Paul Newman were perfectly cast in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Have a wonderful day Matty. Lovely to see you :)
