I’m a huge fan of the yin and yang (wouldn’t have it tattooed on my chest if I wasn’t), but in this lovely work I don’t think it represents merely the surface it occupies.

The position, for me at least, tends to represent the area between her hips and inside her pelvis as the cradle of balanced life. I see this reinforcing the lovely fluid, watery motif given that water is the giver of life.

  • Anthea Slade replied

Me too Ken (a fan of yin/yang) and that is great that you have yin/yang tattooed on your chest…what a perfect tattoo. I am sure it looks fabulous. Your words and interpretation is beautiful and I agree with what you said about her hips and pelvis being the cradle of life. She is my first of seven goddess created over the past week so there is something powerful about her. Your words are always beautiful and a pleasure to read my friend Ken. Thank you always.

Abstract Koi coiling coyly, Yin/Yang, shape-mirrored breasts, enfolded, unfolding. Boy-in-me suckling enjoying, river to oceans outgoing. Her steady gaze-at-me mystery dances current-like. Ebb, flow, we. Confusing, sea. But then, it’s her river. I’m just a bank.

  • Anthea Slade replied

Lace thank you for writing this gorgeous poem in response to my River Goddess. Words so beautifully written in such partnership with my River Goddess…seem to reflect her essence and I feel collaborate with her spirit. Deeply moved and impressed Lace. Thank you doesn’t seem enough.

Unfortunately, I have fallen behind with my commentary on RB, Anthea, but I have been watching your goddess series develop. I used to use the yin and yang logo on my personal letter head some years ago….I just love how you bring the concept into this piece. Rivers have always had special place in the world of mythology, so I think it very appropriate that the river goddess and yin and yang begin your series.

  • Anthea Slade replied

Yes I love yin/yang very much and it is a reoccuring theme in my art and writing. I am so glad you like the yin/yang of my River Goddess and feel she is the right one to begin my series. I was visiting Warburton and it was a wet cold day and I visited the river and I drove home through the rain and danced an hour and she was created. She is the beginning and I did not know that there would be seven after her. And now I have four more brewing at least. I always enjoy your comments my friend David. Thank you so much for visiting River Goddess.

sensually wavy, a mermaid goddess, the flowing water and its mystery. i also love the use of the yin-yang.
    simply stunning Anthea!

  • Anthea Slade replied

Oh thank you Andrea. She was my first goddess and was deeply inspired by the river running through Warburton. It was a cold rainy day and the powerful river evoked in me such intense emotions. She was created from these feelings. I love your comment about the flowing water and mystrey. So very beautiful my friend. Thank you.
